Hobby Lobby | Interactive Sequence

The goal of this project was to learn the process of how a consumer website is built from beginning to end.

The goal of this project was to learn the process of how a consumer website is built from beginning to end.

For this task I decided to use the Hobby Lobby website to help understand how an interactive sequence works.

The sequence I choose to work with was trying to find Crayola Thin Line Markers and then buying them online.

The followings steps are needed to find the Markers on the recoded site:

  1.  Hover over Shop Departments
  2. Hover over Top Brands - Click on Crayola OR Hover over Art Supplies - Click on Markers
  3. Scroll down until you see Crayola Thin Line Markers, Click on Title
  4. Click on Add to Cart
  5. Click Check Out (This will bring you back to the beginning on the process)

This process is not the perfect website sequence and is the most basic, as most people do buy more than one item when online shopping.

The Process

The process started with the task analysis. During this step I had to identify the task that the website must be able to support. I also had to look at the sites navagation and was given the chance to refine the current sites navigation to help make the task at hand easier.

These are the steps needed to complete the task of buying markers from Hobby Lobby online.

The next step in this process was observation and user testing of the current Hobby Lobby site. During this I learned that most people wanted to go straight to the search bar. When that was not allowed it was found that they had a little more difficulty finding the markers. You can view the overview from these interviews here.

The third step was to complete storyboards for the user testing process. I had to create a storyboard for the current site, then create a storyboard for a future version of the process.

The last step before coding the process I had just researched and user tested was to put together a lo-fi and hi-fi prototype.

About the Final Product

The final outcome for this project ended up being a coded interactive sequence for a re-defined Hobby Lobby website.
